7 Things to Let Go Of As We Begin a New Week

The second week of school. A fresh Sunday. Another chance to start again. This is the rhythm of life: beginnings, endings, and the quiet moments in between. In yoga and Pilates, we are reminded that letting go is as important as holding on. Just as the exhale clears space for the next inhale, release clears the path for growth.
As we step into a new week, here are seven things you can practice letting go of — on the mat, in your workouts, and in your life.
1. The Need to Be Perfect
Your practice doesn’t care if you balance in crow or fall out of tree pose. Progress isn’t perfection — it’s presence. When you release perfection, you step into freedom.
2. Comparison to Others
On the mat, in the studio, or scrolling on Instagram — comparison steals your joy. Your body, your story, your timing are uniquely yours. In Pilates, your core strength may build faster than your neighbor’s. In yoga, your flexibility may unfold slower. Both are perfect.
3. Holding Your Breath
The breath is your anchor. When we hold it — in life or in practice — we hold onto stress. With pranayama, every exhale teaches us to soften. Every inhale teaches us to expand. Letting go of breath-holding opens space for calm.
4. Believing Rest Is Weakness
Our culture praises productivity, even in wellness. But rest is not weakness — it’s wisdom. A Yin practice, a restorative class, or lying still at the end of hot Pilates is not wasted time. It’s essential recovery that strengthens you for the long run.
5. Carrying Last Week’s Mistakes
School drop-offs, messy to-do lists, skipped workouts — they don’t define you. Yoga and Pilates remind us that every inhale is a reset. This week, forgive yourself. Begin again.
6. Mental Clutter
The noise in your head — the shoulds, the worries, the doubts — doesn’t have to come with you. Sweat them out in hot power yoga. Shake them loose with breathwork. Let the sound of the bowls vibrate them away. Your mat is your cleansing fire.
7. Forgetting You Belong
Sometimes the hardest part of practice is showing up. But you belong here. Whether you are seasoned or brand new, the mat welcomes you. The practice belongs to everyone.

Letting go is not about losing — it’s about making space. As you move into this new week, ask yourself: what can I exhale? What can I leave behind? And what new breath, new practice, new possibility will I invite in?
